Sussex Police say they won’t enforce 20 mph limits

Sussex Police has said it does not routinely expect to enforce 20 mph speed limits and will not commit extra resources to policing them.

However, a police spokesman went on to say that:

“Where drivers are exceeding the speed limit through wilful offending, officers can enforce the limit and prosecute offenders.”

20 sign

A recent poll by the Worthing Herald, in Sussex, revealed that 83 per cent of readers who voted were against plans for 20 mph limits.  By contrast, the “20’s Plenty” campaign says the scheme has 60-70 per cent of support of residents.
