A question we are often asked is “how do I check how many penalty points are on my licence?“.
If you have a photocard driving licence, there is no longer a paper counterpart, but any penalty points you have will be shown on your DVLA record and can be checked online.
If you still hold an old style paper licence, any points should appear on it, but can also be checked online.
To check online simply visit https://www.viewdrivingrecord.service.gov.uk/driving-record/licence-number
You will need your Driving Licence and national insurance numbers. You can also ring the DVLA on 0300 790 6801.
If you want the DVLA to give the information to someone else on your behalf over the phone, you have to ring them first and give permission.
