Bristol Speed Cameras To Be Switched Back On

iStock_000003385280SmallSpeed cameras are to be turned back on across Bristol, the mayor has announced. They were switched off in 2011, but following a policy u-turn work will start early next year to switch on up to 26 traffic light and speed cameras.

Revenue raised from the cameras will be used to fund their maintenance and enforcement.

Volunteers will also be trained to monitor speeds with detection equipment as 20mph zones are set up in the city.

Other councils in the Avon and Somerset area, including Bath, have already said they are not considering a similar move.

South Gloucestershire Council said it was still considering whether or not to switch the cameras back on.
